Catalog Photography

Successful catalog photography requires careful planning and a meticulous attention to detail. Whether your bank of images is intended for a web-based product catalog or a more traditional print catalog, there are several key points to consider when planning your catalog shoot.

Catalog Photography should provide a cohesive look and feel.

1. Catalog photography must be cohesive

The success of your final print or web catalog will depend to a large degree on how well it all fits together. Product images must look as though they all belong together. This can be a challenge, of course, when the products themselves may vary in size, shape, and color. Careful planning ahead of time will ensure that camera angles, background materials and colors, and lighting design are all chosen to build unity among the images.

2. Catalog photography must accentuate the positive

The photography for your catalog has a very specific purpose - to sell your wares. The imagery must quickly and succinctly communicate the specifics of the product. The photography should be designed to convey the feel you need as well. This may mean the products should appear isolated on a perfectly white background, or it may mean they are displayed on an abstract photographic background, or in their natural context. We can arrange to have models available for your catalog photography shoot, if required.

3. Catalog Photography must work with your design strategy

Sometimes the product photography is intended for use in a print catalog only. Sometimes it is intended solely for use in a web catalog. Often it's needed for both - and for brochures, posters, and a multitude of other uses as well. Knowing the planned uses ahead of time can be a great help in devising the product photography shoot.
